Charlie Hewitt, b.1946, is an American painter, printmaker, and public artist. His works are part of the permanent collections of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, Whitney Museum, Museum of Modern Art, and Library of Congress, among others. He has also been featured in numerous solo and group exhibitions.
After decades of living in downtown Manhattan, Hewitt and his wife, fellow artist Kate Carey, returned to Hewitt’s home state of Maine in 2010 in search of community. They purchased a former hardware store on Main Street in downtown Yarmouth and transformed the historic building into their home, studio, and gallery, which they currently share with their two teenage children, Max and Ruby, several dogs, and an extensive and eclectic collection of art.
Hewitt is in the process of constructing two workshop studios, with the intention of fostering opportunities for community creativity and interaction. The Electric Garage is being developed in Jersey City, New Jersey, and the Electric Greenhouse will be located in Portland, Maine.
