Painting

Stylistically rooted in expressionism and surrealism, Charlie Hewitt's dynamic paintings have qualities both playful and serious, traits shared with fellow artists Alexander Calder, Joan Miro, and Paul Klee, as well as his mentor Philip Guston, who was a major postwar figure of the New York School.
